THE SONG OF THE MAGNIFICAT AND ITS CONSEQUENCES- BY OLGA LUCIA ALVAREZ ARCWP

Someone who was really scared and surprised asked me if the Magnificat had been removed from the Church. “ I don’t really know”, I said, but anyway I will find out information about this issue and I will let you know.

I started looking for information on Internet, on Facebook and with friends and contacts. I decided to check out the Magnificat again asking myself for the reason to be removed. Finally, I found out a good reason for the removal: Mary said some sentences that might have condemned her:
He puts down Kings from their seats, lifting upon high the men of low degree
Those who had no food he made full of good things; the men of wealth he sent
Away with nothing in their hands.
Luke 1: 51-53
It turns out that Isaiah had already said the same idea:
And the poor will have their joy in the Lord increased, and those in need will be
Glad in the Holy of Israel.
    For the cruel one has come to nothing; and those who make sport of the Lord are gone;
and those who are watching to do evil are cut off:
Who give help to a man in a wrong cause, and who put a net for the feet of him who gives decisions in the public place, taking away a man’s right without a cause.
Isaiah 29: 19-21
They haven’t said anything about Isaiah just because he is a man.
I found out that the Magnificat was kind of forgotten and not considered so important since the third century, but both Isaiah and Mary’s prophecies cannot be deleted or ignored. They are still part of history and belong to the people of God.
In fiction, the mother of Jesus is called to trial in the synagogue. The supreme priest wearing his special robes and the voice of thunder tries to make Mary feel scared. He asks her to retract from everything she has said in public and private in her song! He orders not to keep talking that way because only men who have been circumcised are able to speak at synagogues and temples. If she does not submit or accept the orders Canon 1024 and latae sententiae will be applied not only to her but to all the generations to come. However, she does not get scared. She stands up and starts to sing:
My soul gives glory to God; my spirit is glad in God my Saviour.
For he has had pity on his servant, though she is poor and lowly placed: and from this hour will all generations give witness to the blessing which has come to me.
For He is strong has done great things to me, and Holy is his name.
His mercy is for all generations in whom is the fear of him.
With his arm he has done acts of power; he has put to flight those who have pride in their hearts.
Nowadays many women return to the legacy of Mary. She is still teaching us through the Magnificat how to follow our conscience, listen to the voice of God within us and to make known his teaching without letting ourselves be frightened by mocking or punishment.
Our strength comes from baptism. We do not leave the Church. We keep on giving testimony. We definitely assume the prophecy that Mary taught us.  Lucas 1:51-53
