Pope Francis Misses Mark: Names 6 priests, 6 laymen Only 1 Woman as Media Consultors

https://www.ncronline.org/news/vatican/pope-names-13-consultors-vatican-secretariat-communications

"Francis named six priests, six laymen and one laywoman to be the new consultors or advisers to the communications body, which is led by Msgr. Dario Vigano and coordinates the Vatican's diverse communications and media operations. The consultors are an advisory group separate from the secretariat members — a group of 16 cardinals, bishops and laypeople the pope named last year."

Bridget Mary's Response:  In interviews Pope Francis said that he was interested in expanding the roles of women in the church. If he had appointed an equal number of women as media consultants, Francis could have sent a strong message that his actions match his words for expanding women's role in leadership in the church. Surely, there are prominent women in media who are qualified to broaden and balance the Vatican's male perspective.  This is a missed opportunity to give more top jobs to women in the Vatican and for Francis to practice what he preaches. It is ironic and disappointing that this news hits on Holy Week when we recall that  courageous women were the faithful witnesses who stood by Jesus during his execution and the Risen Christ appeared first to Mary of Magdala, calling her to be the apostle to the apostles. Yet Pope Francis selects  only one woman to consult on media at the Vatican. Something is wrong with this picture! Bridget Mary Meehan ARCWP, www.arcwp.org
