Pope to Resign/" Holy Shakeup"/Roman Catholic Women Priests

We are witnessing a "holy shakeup" in the Roman Catholic Church. The Pope's resignation is a positive sign that the Spirit is at work renewing the church. Roman Catholic Women Priests are leading the way to a more open, inclusive church where all are welcome to receive sacraments. It is time for the Roman Catholic Church to follow Jesus's example of Gospel equality and accept women as equals and partners in the Gospel. The people of God are the church and the majority will welcome Benedict's resignation. The cover-up of the sex abuse scandal led to the Pope.  We need a top down shakeup and new structures of accountability in the Roman Catholic Church.  Married priests, women priests, are only a few of the necessary steps the Vatican needs to take in a more just and compassionate church that honors the gifts of God in the people of God.

VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope Benedict XVI announced Monday that he would resign on Feb. 28 because he was simply too infirm to carry on - the first pontiff to do so in nearly 600 years. The decision sets the stage for a conclave to elect a new pope before the end of March. The 85-year-old pope announced his decision in Latin during a meeting of Vatican cardinals on Monday morning.
